IMPACT IN ACTION

Policy in Practice: Disability-Informed Advocacy and Systems Change

As the Founder of Inclusive Sol, Reena leads a caregiver-informed advocacy effort focused on improving visibility, coordination, and access for families impacted by cerebral palsy (CP)—a condition long overlooked in local policy despite being the most common motor disability in childhood.

Working in partnership with Supervisor Holly Mitchell’s office, Reena helped shape Los Angeles County’s first-ever CP-focused motion, centering coordinated services, data-informed planning, and increased public awareness. Following its unanimous passage, she supported implementation efforts, including the County’s inaugural CP webinar and a follow-up session that became the most attended webinar hosted by the Department of Aging & Disabilities. The motion also led the Department to conduct more than 226 disability-focused outreach events and to initiate the development of a countywide disability resource guide, currently in progress.

In parallel, Reena collaborated with LAUSD Board Member Scott M. Schmerelson’s office to formally recognize World Cerebral Palsy Day—securing annual awareness campaigns and inclusion training across more than 1,000 schools serving approximately 65,000 students with disabilities.

This work addresses critical gaps in visibility and coordination, establishing a scalable advocacy model grounded in lived experience, cross-sector collaboration, and practical implementation.
