IMPACT IN ACTION

Advocating for Access: Unlocking Regional Center Services

In March 2025, Reena co-led a workshop at Abilities Expo Los Angeles, the nation’s leading event for the disability community, which draws over 10,000 attendees. The “Advocating for Access” session helped individuals and families navigate California’s Regional Center system and access their entitled services.

In collaboration with Ereida Galda, a Family Support Specialist and fellow parent advocate, Reena delivered a practical and engaging session filled with tools, strategies, and real-world examples. Together, they created a welcoming space grounded in shared experience and community connection. The workshop concluded with a CP meet-and-greet in honor of Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month and received overwhelmingly positive feedback.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING

“Reena was the keynote speaker at our Doctor of Physical Therapy Capstone Ceremony at Mount Saint Mary's University, Los Angeles. She shared the journey she and her son have taken navigating cerebral palsy while embracing a full and joyful life, delivering a message that immediately connected with our students and faculty. She infused her storytelling with hope, positivity, optimism, and realism, drawing from her lived experience and unwavering advocacy for individuals with disabilities. Reena inspired the room with a powerful testament to what's possible when love drives action, fueled by perseverance and patience.

Her message emphasized the critical role of inclusive care and the importance of centering the family voice in clinical practice. She thoughtfully aligned her message with our program's inclusion, compassion, and service core values. Her work through Inclusive Sol embodies the mission of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet—to serve our dear neighbors without distinction—and continues to inspire future physical therapists to lead with empathy and purpose.” ~ Deborah Lowe, Chair, Dept. of Physical Therapy; Director, DPT Program, Mount Saint Mary's University
